It’s Thursday! Three exams down, one paper to go, then it’s party time. But I thought I’d help out anyone looking for some bass in the meantime. So here we go.

Let’s start off with something fun, I could certainly use that. High Rankin made this song in order to vent some feelings he has. But he’s not bitter, really. The bit comparing YouTube and SoundCloud really hit home for me. I hate it when people do that. Enjoy the fun poked at annoying people and the wobs all over the place.

Fuck You Virtual DJ – High Rankin / Or from SoundCloud

Next up, Stephen Walking delivers some intense wobbage and filth. This track is off of the latest Monstercat compilation. I enjoy how the tune moves in and out of tropical instruments and electronic synths. Check it out.

Birthday Cake – Stephen Walking / Or from Bandcamp

And now for some nostalgia. Hugs&Drugs turn the Killers’ classic into an excellent drumstep track. The beat breaks down into bass for the chorus. It’s great. Give it a listen for yourself.

Mr. Brightside (Hugs&Drugs Remix) – the Killers / Or from SoundCloud

We’re going to take a step back with this track and relax the mood a bit. Dylan Sanders & Brad Lee have a very chilled out track to share. The flute and breakbeat just makes you want to dance and the vocals are just as catchy. The dubstep interludes just seem to make sense. Check it out!

The Nosebleed Section (Dylan Sanders & Brad Lee Remix) – Hilltop Hoods / Or from SoundCloud

I posted Logic the other day so when I saw this remix I was in a very receptive mood. Turns out that really wouldn’t have mattered. The Feature Cuts remix is so good that I would have blogged it no matter what mood I was in. The beat is driving and bass filled which lends urgency to Logic’s already intense verses. Enjoy it!

Blogroll: Decently Dope, The Music Ninja

I never thought that I would make this comparison, but Jhameel‘s latest track has me thinking a little of Sleigh Bells. It’s because the opening synths are that unbridled and slightly fuzzy explosion of sound that Sleigh Bells favors. Jhameels vocals dominate his beat, though, and his amazing voice becomes the focus. He’s pushing his voice on this one; you can hear the emotion and expressiveness pouring out of it at those moments when his voice almost breaks and he gasps for breath. Not only is his voice entrancing, but his lyrics are deep and ask some hard questions about living up to your own expectations. As always, this makes me hungry for more and more Jhameel. Thankfully, this song is the beginning of a new music series from him, so I’ll be on the lookout next week and so should you. Enjoy!

Skeleton Lipstick uses 80s synths and samples to create an ambient, fuzzy sound, backed by drumbeats and repeated vocals. Using one vocal sample for a whole song can feel too repetitive. But this track doesn’t seem to have that effect on me. It really just relaxes me. I love the warm feeling from the fuzzy synths. Skeleton Lipstick will be coming out with a full length work on Airline Tapes soon. Keep an eye out. In the meantime, enjoy.

Friday means mashups (ok well now it’s Saturday, but that happens). So I thought I’d do a mashup post consisting entirely of “Call Me Maybe” mashups. Then I thought what if people don’t like it enough for that. Then I thought too bad. Then I thought I’d throw you a bone. First half of this post won’t contain Carly Rae and the second half will. Have fun!

Let’s start with a sample from Inception. That’s always fun. Add some pop house and we have a sweet mashup. Manila Killa delivers something quite fun. Give it a listen.

The Kick (Manila Killa Bootleg) – Dirty South, Swedish House Mafia, Hans Zimmer & Coldplay / Or from Beacon Records

The Hood Internet recently dropped a new mixtape. This is not on it. But it’s pretty damn good and deserves your attention. Check it out.

Surprise Surprise (Busta Rhymes x Gemini Club) – the Hood Internet / Or from SoundCloud

Binary put together this lovely trance-y track a month ago. But I haven’t stopped loving it yet. Very chilled out. Enjoy!

Let Me Go Alive – Binary / Or from SoundCloud

With the help of the Catalina Rhyme Mixers we’re going to step up the pace a bit. I like the way this turned out. Now I want Skrillex to produce a rage beat for Rihanna. Give it a listen to see if you agree.

Moves Like Skrillex (Rihanna, Alesso, Skrillex, Maroon 5, Usher) – The Catalina Rhyme Mixers / Or from SoundCloud

Koyote lays down an addictive club beat on this one. Dutch house often just annoys me, but I really get into this one. How about you? Check it out and tell me what you think.

Sending My Love (Koyote Bootleg) – Ton!c vs Hard Rock Sofa vs R3hab & Swanky Tunes / Or from SoundCloud

The White Panda has quietly been dropping full length songs from their latest album. This track was one of my favorites from the album so I thought I’d share the full length. Have fun with it.

Lose 2Night (Eminem // Eric Prydz) – the White Panda / Or from SoundCloud

I need more DnB in my life. Graycat delivers with a sleepy start that moves into beautiful vocal build until the drums come in and the song really gets going. Soulja Boy was a particularly inspired choice to add to the beat. I absolutely love this song. Just wait for the Imogen Heap! Enjoy it!

Turn My Bass Ooooooooooon! – Graycat / Or from SoundCloud

And now, it’s time to call me maybe (which isn’t my name, but I’ll let you call me it for a little bit).

Oh man. It has been more than a month. I bet you had given up hope you would get a dubstep post today after the last one. But I’m in a EDM type of mood, so I’m making an effort here. I’ve got some really great tracks to share with you. The first one I was going to share was not actually free so yeah, that’s still a problem. All of the tracks I did blog were provided free to download by the artist, and aren’t we glad. Remember folks, #freedubstep. Here we go.

First up is a track from Monstercat’s latest compilation. Sampling some great dialogue clips (although I guess it’s more of monologue clips since you here one person per clip) Rogue hits hard and gets the listener pumped and ready for more. Lucky for you, I have more. Check it out!

This is it – Rogue / Or from Bandcamp

With a gentle piano intro, this track gets intense fairly swiftly and soon is wobbling all over the place. Tristam knows his stuff and brings the beat down back to a simple piano to get you ready for another drop. Give it a listen!

Kings – Tristam / Or from SoundCloud

The Girls Can Hear Us give us a rap / electro / dubstep track with some dirty lyrics and filthy bass. There are wobs all over the place which we’re supposed to use when the drugs aren’t working. I think this would help. Enjoy it.

When the Drugs Don’t Work – The Girls Can Hear Us / Or from SoundCloud

Next up it’s time for some filth from Krewella. With pure vocals and crisp bell synths the intense bass comes as an appropriate shock to the system. Top quality sound as per usual. Check it out!

Fire Hive (Krewella fuck on me remix) – Krewella / Or from SoundCloud

When I forget something, I guess I try to make up for it. So here’s another epic remix from PrototypeRaptor. Taking on Wolfgang Gartner seems to give no trouble. This track has enough heavy bass to get a dubstep sublabel in my book. It really is more electro house, but you don’t mind right? Right. Enjoy it!

Push and Rise (PrototypeRaptor Bootleg Remix) – Wolfgang Gartner / Or from SoundCloud

To finish us off, here’s another Monstercat track. Project 46 delivers an intense and beautiful prog house track. I know that isn’t dubstep but we’re all EDM lovers together right? PLUR? If not, feel free to skip it. But I love it. I’m quite glad I have an excuse to share it here (what with having to remove that other track). The track starts intense with some bass on the beat and moves, until two minutes in it drops those beautiful prog house synths and rocks out. Have a good Thursday folks.

Blogroll: Earmilk, Camelback Music

So I realized I never blogged this song. This is a serious problem with this website that I aim to fix. Pendulum’s song “Fasten Your Seatbelt” is one of the catchiest and most fun songs ever. So when someone goes and remixes it, we’re right to be skeptical. In this case however, PrototypeRaptor has made a remix we can all enjoy and get just as excited about. The added wobs and choppiness take this song to another level. I can’t describe it with justice but the drop at the 4:22 mark is just so unbelievably good I can’t even handle it. Turn this one way up. Party safely, folks.

Got another one for you I spotted on Good Music All Day. Hailing from Alabama, Rhyal Knight delivers a song with vocals that can evoke hard rock / alt rock / emo rock at the same time as it gently reminds us of folk and country. With a traditional band backing these vocals, this song comes together as a really catchy track without an instrument made out of a computer. It brings us back to the simpler times of the early 2000s (I joke, I kid). To spread the good news of his new album, In Transit, (available here on Amazon or here on iTunes) Rhyal Knight dropped the title song for free. This is that single and it is satisfying enough to prompt me to listen to the rest of the album and buy several of the tracks. Have a listen and decide for yourself.

It’s been a rough month for posting in this blog. To be honest, I can’t promise much for the rest of the month. School is coming to a close here, so bear with me. What I want to do now is share Logic‘s latest mixtape with you all. Logic is one of my favorite rappers out there and this mixtape does not disappoint. Shout out to Good Music All Day, where I heard that this mixtape was out first. I’m going to share my favorite three tracks from this after my first few listen throughs (I was writing a paper and just put this on and cruised). Be sure to start downloading the whole mixtape from Datpiff now!

Yep, that’s right, Logic kicks off his mixtape by sampling Inception. And it’s damn good. After the slow intro, Logic drops a beat and rocks it. It’s a great track to use as an intro. Check it out.

Inception – Logic

Next up, Logic hits harder on this track than any I’ve heard in awhile. He whips out smart, sharp lyrics. The beat is simplistic but I really was hooked when Logic drops the beat and tells us he killed someone last night. This track is just great.

Disgusting (Feat. C Dot Castro) – Logic

Here’s the last track I’m putting up. Sampling a fabulous track, Logic quickly sets the stage of the track by describing picking up a girl in a bar and taking her home. She tells him she’s in love him and he freaks and leave. Then the next day he meets a girl and falls in love with her immediately. He doesn’t seem to notice the irony but that still makes it funny. Enjoy!

I feel bad at how spotty my blogging has been lately. I’m afraid the next few weeks are going to be similarly spotty. Sorry. That’s life. That’s the tail end of the semester. Since I really haven’t been listening to new music I thought I’d throw an old track at you. Jhameel is one of my favorite artists out there. His music is unbelievably unique and yet fits into a pop categorization without much effort. His voice is just as unique and amazingly addictive. When I hear one of his songs, I just have to listen to another. This track is funkier than some and less funky than others, but wow is it powerful. Jhameel is due to start another five song release any time now and I’m having trouble waiting. In the meantime, we can enjoy this year old track. Give it a listen!

The Human Condition – Jhameel / Or from SoundCloud

BONUS: Here’s what inspired this post. Jhameel just dropped a video for his excellent song, “White Lie“. Enjoy!
