First off, I want to put it out there that I would love the Chainsmokers even if they made bad music, which they don’t. They have a fun sense of humor that they share with every release and email. If you want an amusing example, just read what they had to say about this song on SoundCloud. And they do make great music which makes them even more awesome. They apply what they call a “progressive indie flare” to “Julian” in this remix. I think that’s a good way to put it; it scans a bit better than indie-pop-house. But that’s what this song is, from its synths to its vocals. Its simple synth hook sounds like synthpop without the beat or prog house with. Meanwhile the attractive vocals add an indie pop layer to the song. It’s beautiful, crisp and clean, and it adds that emotional something to crown it. Enjoy it.
