Happy Friday all! I apologize for the lack of a post yesterday, but I was browsing the net for dubstep and got sidetracked by several different genres. In the end I posted nothing. Oh well. It’s a mashup day today and I am extra psyched for it being Friday because my girlfriend is visiting this weekend. I hope your weekends are going to be awesome too! Here are some mashups to start it right.
Let’s start with something festive and funky. I blame my man Greg for getting me into this kind of flow more recently. But man is it good. Daigo gives us some ass shaking lyrics from 50 and some shakeable music from Keith Mansfield. Definitely music to move to. Enjoy.
You guys should know the drill by now. Of course there is new White Panda out. Of course it’s awesome. Of course they only use great samples. Of course it’s danceable. Of course you should be listening to it already.
Taking it down a notch with Keane here. While this mashup totally works, I still feel a little creative dissonance because the Keane song is not entirely happy, edging toward emo, whereas Wiz is almost entirely triumphal. But that’s where the chorus comes in to match the tones. The harmonics sound a little odd here but the moods match. Good mashup from Vic Ono. Check it out.
Bringing it back to the King and some Jay to get rid of any self pity left over from the last song. Nas spits like none other on this one. Cookin Soul certainly lived up to the name on this one. Simply excellent.
I have to admit here, my favorite part of this is the instrumental and my least favorite part is the vocals. But the entire thing is beautiful even if the chorus is annoying. I like this more than my personal soft spot for the Beatles accounts for. The Rhythm Scholar really did an excellent job on this. Check it out.
Yeah so the instrumental of the Madonna track annoys me but I thought this was a fun mashup as fun ones go and it gets us back in the pop of the aughts with a pop star big in the 80s (and now). CjR keeps all the familiar hooks in and it’s fun. Enjoy!
I think this song is beautiful. A shy, naive, emo kind of beautiful but still. But then that darn song Calabria hits the song over the head with that stupid riff. I’d love a version of this track without that. I’m fine with the lyrics from Calabria, just not that riff. Meh. Yoni Einhorn made a great song nonetheless. Enjoy it and have a great weekend!
